What is a suitable ladder?

We offer our customers the opportunity to almost half their call out fee if they can provide a suitable ladder. We've realised that "suitable" is a very general term, so in the interest of transparency (read: we're tired of standing on death-trap ladders and chairs) here's some useful info:

The Basics

None of these are ladders:

a small wooden stool on a light blue background

A person standing proudly on top of a horse with their arms above their headwith their arms

This majestic beast

A person stnading on the ground next to a high wall, attempts to help another person over by pushing them up

Just…. No

Safety

Now we've got the basics down, your ladder must also:

  • Be made of metal

  • Be an A frame (not the type that leans against a wall)

  • Have cross supports (mesh, wire or metal) that connect both legs

size

Sorry, but it does matter 🙂

The distance between the top step and your ceiling must be no more than 1.5m We are not giants and balancing on your tiptoes installing a light is super dangerous.

Don't have a tape measure? Kein Stress! Here's some handy examples of other things that are 1.5m

  • A standard mop or broom

  • 6 crates of beer

  • 2 velociraptors (real ones, not the ones in Jurassic Park)

The legal bit

If one of our team turns up to a job and the ladder isn't suitable, they can't work. It's unsafe, makes the job go much slower, and it invalidates our liability insurance. You will still be charged the full call out fee for this trip.

We are happy to return with a suitable ladder, and you will need to pay the full call out fee for that job as well.

If in doubt, ask us to bring one
