We’ve hung up our tool belts ❤️‍🩹

I have some sad news to share with you: Driller Queens is closed. 

Over the last five years, we’ve drilled thousands of holes, painted miles of walls, probably installed the same IKEA curtain rail in at least 500 homes, and drunk thousands of cups of coffee. We grew into a team of 20+ Queens, worked with amazing people all across Berlin, and made a lot of noise about the importance of inclusivity in the trades.

How did we get here?

The business model just wasn’t enough to sustain the social impact side that made us so proud. Every element of the company depended on me being available, all the time - and our margins were too thin to employ people to take on these tasks. 

We have weathered countless storms - financial, bureaucratic, organisational and emotional - and I’ve always managed to pull us back from the brink. In mid-September, we were hit with a hurricane of bad luck, and this time, I couldn’t bring us back.

Can Driller Queens be saved?

Not in its current form. The business model couldn’t carry the weight, and rebuilding it as it was would just land us in the same situation.

Legally, the company has now entered into formal insolvency proceedings - this means that an appointed administrator oversees the legal side of closing things down, and will speak to creditors and debtors. 

The heart and soul of Driller Queens isn’t gone. There’s a strong potential to bring something bigger back in the future - built differently, from the ground up. 

We’ve learned too much, fought too hard, and drilled too many holes for it all to just disappear. 

What's next?

For the Queens

If you’ve had the pleasure of working with our Queens before, you can still book them directly - they’re still doing the same awesome work as before, and this is the best way you can support them.

For me

I chose to pile my money, energy, and health into keeping Driller Queens alive for as long as possible. 

Now, I’m technically unemployed and up to my eyeballs in the mountain of admin that comes with closing a GmbH (10/10 do not recommend).

I’ve had the pleasure of working with such a supportive, wonderful community, and I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside some of the most incredible, talented, and kind people you could imagine. 

It hasn’t always been easy - there have been plenty of ups and downs - but I don’t regret it in the slightest. 

This chapter is closed, but the story isn’t finished.
