Tools We Actually Use
(and Love)
Tried, tested, and beginner-approved - this is the kit we’d recommend to anyone just starting out.
If you're in a Neubau, we recommend going straight for an SDS drill because those concrete walls don’t mess around. In most Altbau buildings, a regular hammer drill will usually do the trick. If you're not sure what kind of place you're in, play it safe and go SDS. This guide covers the basics, but hey, we can’t be held responsible if your walls were built by wizards or aliens.
We’re not sponsored (yet, hello Bosch, call us maybe?) but these are affiliate links, which means that if you buy through them, we receive a small thank-you cut. It doesn’t cost you a cent more and it helps us keep doing what we do best: drilling, fixing, and making power tools less scary.
DON’T DRILL AND HOPE
You know it’s a bad idea to drill blind and hope for the best. That’s why you’re getting a wall scanner, right? It sniffs out wires, pipes, and all the hidden horrors so you can drill with confidence, not crossed fingers.
Your Altbau Starter Hero
This is the drill we’d hand you on day one. It’s budget-friendly, beginner-approved, and more than enough muscle for most Altbau walls. No fancy extras, just a solid, reliable corded hammer drill that gets the job done without freaking you out.
Built Tough for Bigger Jobs
Bosch Green is great for getting started. But if your apartment needs some serious love, Bosch Blue is where it’s at. This corded hammer drill is a solid investment if you want your tools to grow with your skills.
lose the Cord, Keep the Power
Same trusty Bosch green strength, now without the annoying cables. This cordless hammer drill gives you freedom to move, drill, and screw wherever the job takes you. Great for Altbau walls and even better for not tripping over yourself. Look ma, no cords!
the big guns
If you’re dealing with concrete Neubau walls, this is what you want in your corner. Serious power, proper SDS drill action, and enough oomph to get the job done without breaking a sweat. This isn’t overkill — it’s just the right tool for the job.
the big guns, unplugged
All the power of an SDS, minus the cable drama. This beast of a cordless SDS drill powers through concrete just like its wired sibling, but lets you roam free. Neubau walls? Bring it on.
The daddy of all spirit levels
This Stabila beauty doesn’t just tell you when it’s level - it marks the spot too. No more juggling a pencil, measuring tape, and a level like a circus act. Two hands are all you need.
Small, but Mighty (and Cute as Hell)
This baby’s built for one thing: conquering flatpack. Light, cordless, and adorable, it takes the faff out of furniture assembly - without destroying your wrists or your patience.
Not Your Average Screwdriver
This clever little number hides multiple heads inside, so you don’t need six different screwdrivers rolling around in your junk drawer. One handle, all the bits you actually need. Smart, tidy, and super useful.
